What is a DOT Physical?
A DOT Physical is a federally required medical examination for drivers of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs). The purpose is to ensure you are physically, mentally, and visually capable of safely operating large or heavy vehicles on the road. Once you pass, you’ll receive a Medical Examiner’s Certificate valid for up to 24 months, unless a medical condition requires more frequent monitoring
Who needs a DOT Physical?
Drivers with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
Drivers hauling hazardous materials
Bus drivers or passenger‑carrying vehicles interstate or intrastate (under certain federal/state laws)
Anyone required by employer or state/federal regulation to maintain DOT certification for safety reasons
What to bring to your physical?

List of all current medications + dosages and prescribing physician
Any corrective lenses, hearing aids
Recent medical records or clearance letters if you have chronic conditions (e.g. diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea)

FAQs
How often do I have to get a DOT Physical?
Usually every 24 months, but if you have a health condition that needs monitoring (such as high blood pressure or other issues), your examiner may issue your certificate for less time.
Will taking prescription medications disqualify me?
Not usually. What matters is whether the medication impairs your ability to safely operate a vehicle. You should bring a list of meds and prescriber info; sometimes a clearance from a treating provider is needed.
What happens if I fail?
The examiner will tell you which standard you didn’t meet. Often there are steps you can take (medical treatment, further tests, medical clearance) and then return for re‑evaluation. Your certificate will only be issued once you meet FMCSA standards.
How do I schedule & how much will it cost?
You can call us at 352‑664‑7702.. Our cost is $120 for the exam.
